1/6 plate daguerreotype of Edward Douglas Phelps (19 August 1837 – 20 December 1917). Great, confident pose! Phelps was born in New Hampshire and was a miner and bookkeeper in California. Hillary Knox was his stepfather, married to his mother Lydia Phelps Knox. FamilySearch shows that Phelps enlisted in the Civil War in June 1863 in St. Louis, Missouri. It looks like he's wearing a military belt buckle here, but his shirt looks more like a miner's shirt? He died in Washington State. Dag is in very good condition with original seals still intact, in a full but damaged case. The specks are on the underside of the glass. Boxed, tracked & signed shipping. 8440A
