All varieties have this property, regardless of color. Unlike many natural crystals obsidian has no crystal structure as it is a kind of volcanic glass. It’s known to be incredibly sharp and was used in mesoamerican weapons like the macuahuitl. The little "snowflakes" are actually a type of silica known as christobalite (also seen in Libyan Desert Glass), which naturally enhances the energetic properties of the black obsidian!
