Vitruvian Man Bronze Belt Buckle, Wearable Sculpture
The idea for this artwork was to take the amazing drawing by Leonardo da Vinci, called the Vitruvian Man, and make it into a piece of wearable art. Da Vinci has always been an inspiration to my art work and this drawing in particular always amazed me. While in college, I took a sculpture class. Our final project was too envision a series and create the first piece. Being an illustrator, I thought it would be great fun to make a series of artwork that you could carry with you everywhere. At the time, I was very into crazy belt buckles. Converting Da Vinci's drawing into three dimensions was a challenge. But I managed to carve it out of wax. I then made a mold of it, poured three wax copies and sent it off to the foundry for it to be cast in bronze using the lost wax method. After college, I lost the mold of the belt buckle. I didn't think about it for years. Just a few years ago, my father in law, an amazing sculptor, found my original mold! He repaired enough to make several wax copie
