This portrait depicts Sojourner Truth, an inspiring abolitionist orator, who is most famous for her 1851 speech at a Woman’s Rights Convention in Akron, Ohio.  By the time of the Civil War, she had become a national figure, meeting President Lincoln and fighting segregation on Washington streetcars.   Indira Cesarine is a multidisciplinary artist who works with photography, video, painting, printmaking, and sculpture.
