Originating in Alexandria, Egypt in 300 BC, cameos have been used throughout the years as status symbols, charms of desire, and teaching tools. They were coveted, collected and popularized by the likes of Napoleon, Queen Victoria and Pope Paul II. One look at this necklace and it's easy to see why cameos garner so much adoration. Meticulously crafted by skilled artisans in classic carnelian, this miniature work of art features a white and peach, marble-like carving of a lady's face in profile set against a russet colored translucent background. The delicate detailing of her ringlets, headband, pearl necklace and chandelier earrings are beautifully executed with superb workmanship within the carving -- a sign of a high-quality piece. Cameo is set in 14k yellow gold and is surrounded by a dazzling platinum wreath of diamond encrusted leaves and lustrous pearls. It can be worn as a necklace or as a brooch. Cameo comes on a new gold filled chain. Additional Details Date: 1900s Mater
