Since the dawn of humankind, people have been using their hands to express themselves and to convey emotions. From shaking hands in friendship to holding hands in affection, each little gesture takes on a symbolic meaning that often spans seas, cultures and time. It's no surprise that these expressive motifs have been captured and celebrated in antique jewellery, particularly in the sentimental Georgian and Victorian eras. This beautiful pendant of a hand grasping a rod symbolizes the wearer is seeking guidance or comfort in a time of need. This piece was originally made as a brooch, however the pin back has fallen off at some point, so we have converted it to a pendant in an effort to give it a second life. It is delicately hand carved from walrus tusk ivory and accented with a 9k gold bracelet and rod. Since this piece was created before 1972, it is exempt from the Marine Mammal Protection Act and is legal to be purchased and sold. Additional Details Date: 1880s Materials: W
