Hand motifs are seen in abundance in Victorian jewelry and housewares.  A hand holding a cornucopia was believed to symbolize abundance and good fortune, since the word cornucopia (cornu copiae) translated from Latin means "horn of plenty."   One look at this striking vase and it's easy to see why this particular motif was so popular.
