A Japanese painter and draughtsman, Yoshizawa Setsuan (1809-1889) was a pupil of Tosaka Bun’yo. Heavily influenced by the bunjin or literati style of the earlier Edo period, Setsuan produced many paintings of idealized landscapes, flowers and birds. Our coasters celebrate four of his exquisite images from his 1876 sketchbook in the Walters which were created with colored ink on silk. Each coaster measures 3.75 x 3.75" with a cork base.
