Black Walnut Block BW-390 3.6" x 3.6" x 9.7" 3.2 lbs. This Walnut blank includes both medium-brown heartwood and creamy brown sapwood, with a strip of wane on one edge.  Note that the dimensions are of the widest part of the block -- the wane area removes some material.  See 3rd photo for a sense of the cross-section dimensions.  Heartwood dominates the block, approximately 70% of the volume, and it gradually lightens in color toward the sapwood.   The grain is linear throughout.  I see no cracks or other potential flaws.
