Wild Safari Wildlife Collection   The African Elephant consists of two different species, the African bush elephant and the African forest elephant, the bush elephant being the larger of the two. African elephants employ their trunks for a multitude of tasks, including grasping and drinking.   History: Unfortunately, all species of elephants are considered vulnerable or endangered, with the two African species classified as vulnerable. Despite conservation sanctuaries and other methods of protection readily established throughout Africa, both the African bush and forest elephant are suffering from a loss of their natural habitat due to the incursion and growth of human populations. Sadly, they are also one of the most commonly and relentlessly poached animals worldwide. Scientific Name: Genus Loxodonta Characteristics: Known to be incredibly intelligent, social, and gentle, African elephants are able to display various emotions, including sadness, compassion, gratefulness, and more.
