For the Gilt Special Tambour, the core is cotton and a special counter-winding process is used at the end to take over twist out of the thread so it lays limp and easier to stitch with. The 6-end Silk is slightly thinner than the Special Tambour. Uses of Gilt or 90% Silver on 6-end Silk or Gilt Special Tambour These three threads were custom-made for me to work Gobelin stitch backgrounds in 17th-century pieces, a technique often found in sweet bags from the period. The Gilt Special Tambour thread also works beautifully for creating a fine, elegant plaited braid.
