“The solution comes in, of all places, a garage in California.” When you read about EPCOT’s development, there’s no question that the Imagineers had a soft spot for Spaceship Earth. And it’s no surprise - even setting aside the fact that they were building the world’s then largest geodesic sphere. Because as stunning a feat of engineering as it was on the outside, perhaps what drew Imagineers in the most was the attraction’s theme: communication. After all, what are Imagineers, first and foremost, if not communicators and storytellers? At its heart, Spaceship Earth is an Imagineer’s origin story. The attraction has always begun with the first communications between cavemen to hunt and defend themselves against larger threats, and then the recording of knowledge on cave walls.
