Saint Lucia arrives bearing lighted candles to brighten the darkness of winter. Celebrated on December 13, Saint Lucy's Day is most widely celebrated in Scandinavia and Italy. Swedish tradition includes a candle-lit procession, songs, ginger snaps and sweet, saffron-flavored buns (lussekatter), shaped like curled up cats with raisin eyes. In Italy, Santa Lucia rides her donkey while visiting homes to deliver presents. Needle felted of soft wool roving. Silk ribbon. Felt wings. The crown and candles were designed by Ukrainian artist, Marina Ilnytska.
