10s/Edwardian Antique Ñandutí Hand Crocheted Wedding Gown Small
This is an antique hand crocheted lace gown from 1908. I purchased this from the daughter of the original owner, who stated that her mother wore it as her confirmation gown.The tiered dress is created of a hand crocheted ivory "spider" lace. Ñandutí is a traditional Paraguayan embroidered lace, introduced by the Spaniards, that is related to Teneriffe lace. The name means "spider web" in Guaraní.•Color is an off-white cream with gold undertones•The blouson bodice is cut high along the neckline & back. •The lace is crocheted into sharp points to give almost a fringed effect around the neckline. •The bodice & back are cut generously & pleated at the waistline & collar. •The dress is fully lined w/ a sheer netted fabric. •The inside of the waistline has a thick muslin band that closes at the back with hook & eyes.•The skirt has three tiers of lace & is cut straight with just a hint of an A line. •The scalloped hem of the netted lining has and extra ruffled layer
