This newly remastered, first-ever reissue revisits an informal duo project that was close to Harold Battiste’s heart. In 1970, the legendary New Orleans producer, arranger, composer and musician hit the studio with his A.F.O. Records co-founder Melvin Lastie not as business partners making an album but as old friends and like-minded musicians whose artistic ideas had long been in-sync. The pair played all the parts during the sessions, using their rare time “alone together” in the studio as a refuge from the industry-side of the music they loved. After Lastie’s untimely death two years later, Battiste quietly released Hal-Mel: Alone Together in 1976, noting on the sleeve that it “represents the relationship between two music masters.” TRACK LISTING SIDE A01.
