James Black: The Funky Sides Of James Black
The Funky Sides of James Black is a tribute to one of New Orleans' most inventive and influential drummers. A self-taught prodigy, Black developed a drumming style marked by its polyrhythmic complexity and deep-rooted connection to New Orleans’ second-line traditions. Throughout the 1960s and '70s, Black collaborated with New Orleans greats like Ellis Marsalis, Dr. John and Eddie Bo. Yet, despite his genius, Black remained largely underappreciated in his lifetime. This album showcases the funky side of his playing and compositions. TRACK LISTING SIDE A01. I've Got Reasons - Mary Jane Hooper02. Can I Be Your Squeeze - Chuck Carbo & The Soul Finders03.
