The series pitted the defending NBA champion and Eastern Conference playoff champion Detroit Pistons against the Western Conference playoff champion Portland Trail Blazers. Detroit won the series handily, 4 games to 1, easily becoming NBA Champs for the second year in a row. The Pistons became just the third franchise in NBA history to win back-to-back championships, after the Lakers and Celtics. Hall of Fame point guard Isiah Thomas was named NBA Finals MVP.
