"The 1977 NCAA Division I-A football championship was split. In this split, the Nebraska Cornhuskers were top-ranked in the Coache's Poll with a record of 13-0, a championship in the Big 12 Conference, and a victory over the Tennessee Volunteers in the Orange Bowl. In the final AP Poll, the Nebraska Cornhuskers were ranked second.The Cornhuskers ended the season and achieved such a title with 1520 points, 32 1st, 2 Prev, and 1/6 Hi/Lo.The team became the second in the history of Major College League Football to have earned three national titles in four seasons, after Notre Dame who won in 1946, 1947, and 1949.Among other achievements gathered this season, the defensive end, Grant Wistrom, won the Lombardi Award from the Rotary Club of Houston in Texas. Whereas guard, Aaron Taylor, won the Outland Trophy for the best college football interior lineman by the Football Writers Association of America.
