Boston Celtics fans hadn’t gotten a chance to celebrate a NBA Championship since 1986 with Larry Bird. That all changed when in a blockbuster trade, the Celtics acquired Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett. Put alongside Paul Pierce, the Celtics formed the all-star trio known as the Big Three! And in familiar fashion, the 2008 NBA Finals culminated with a showdown between the NBA’s two most successful franchises. The Los Angeles Lakers, led by Kobe Bryant and coach Phil Jackson, were set to face off against the Boston Celtics. This would be be the 11th time they played each other in the FInals. On June 17 at TD Garden in Boston, the stellar play of the Big Three and stifling team defense led the Celtics to victory. Game 6 was an absolute blowout, 131-92, making it the largest margin of victory (38) in a championship winning game! The Boston Celtics became NBA Champs for the 17th time, winning the series over the Lakers 4-2. Paul Pierce was named Series MVP.
