The Red Wings entered the Finals having won the Presidents Trophy for most regular season wins, and the Penguins came in behind the leadership of Sidney Crosby, who led the playoffs in both assists and scores. Detroit came out swinging and didn't allow any points from Pittsburgh, winning the first two games convincingly to go up 2-0 in the series.
