The 2019 NCAA Basketball National Championship game was played on April 8, 2019, at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota, between the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Virginia Cavaliers. It was the first time both teams were making their national championship game appearance. It was an exciting and highly contested game. Virginia had a 32–29 lead over Texas Tech at halftime. Texas Tech outscored Virginia 39–36 in the second half, resulting in a 68–68 tie and forcing overtime. Virginia took off in overtime, going on an 11-0 scoring run. The Cavaliers defeated the Red Raiders, 85–77 in overtime, to win their first national title. Kyle Guy was named the NCAA Basketball Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
