Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle Musigny 2018
Country: France Region: Burgundy Type: Red Wine Grape: Pinot Noir Ghislaine Barthod’s holdings cover close to 6 hectares in the commune of Chambolle and in neighboring Gilly-les-Citeaux. The soil of Chambolle is more spare than that of neighboring Morey and Gevrey--limestone gravel covers the surface and the layer of topsoil is very thin. As a result, the wines of Chambolle are noted for their finesse and delicacy. The Barthod villages is a blend of 13 different parcels (from a total of just 1.5 hectares) including old vines from Aux Croix and Les Herbuesand a 0.07 hectare micro-parcel in the 1er Cru Les Sentiers that is too small to vinify separately. 20% new oak. Aromas of cherries, raspberries and blood orange, with rich soil tones and hints of raw cocoa. Medium to full-bodied, with a core of beautifully succulent fruit built around ripe, fine-grained tannins.
