Callicarpa americana American Beautyberry is a showy, upright, spreading, deciduous shrub that, in mid summer, produces pale pink flowers.  In the Autumn, the American Beautyberry freely produces dark violet berries.  Berries are edible. Many folks made home-made jelly out of the berries. When cut, berry stalks are equally beautiful (or perhaps more so) in arrangements. For example, participants in our wreath-making workshops (just after Thanksgiving) love them as accents tucked among evergreen boughs. *Deer May Browse Berries*  Photo courtesy of Toms Creek Nursery in Denton, NC Ornamental Characteristics Category Flowering Shrub Foliage Type Deciduous Height 4' - 6' Spread 4' - 6' Shape Upright & Arching Primary Foliage Color Bright Green Seasonal Foliage Color Yellow Flowering Season Summer Flower Color Pink Berries Purple Environmental Characteristics Growth Rate Moderate Sun Preferences Sun to Partial Shade Water Preferences Average:Prepa
