Cedrus deodora Deodar Cedar (also called Himalayan Cedar) is sacred to Hindus; also known here as California Christmas Tree. This conifer is exceptional for its graceful pendulous habit and silvery gray-green needles on arching, widely spreading branches. Drought tolerant when established. Grows best in a well drained, somewhat dry soil in a sunny, sheltered location. Broadly pyramidal when young, it becomes wide-spreading and flat topped as it matures, attaining a height of 50' - 75' in 30 to 40 years.
