Firewitch Dianthus
Dianthus gratianapolitanus 'Feuerhexe' Feuerhexe is German for Firewitch, which was chosen by the Perennial Plant Association for its 2006 Plant of the Year. It has bright-pink flowers, which appear later and last longer than those of most cultivars, and they have an especially spicy fragrance. At maturity, clumps stand at 6" high and 12-18" wide. To keep flowers blooming 6 weeks or more, deadhead at least weekly; and to keep clumps vigorous, divide every 2-3 years. Good air circulation and drainage work best to prevent any problems. If rust occurs, dust plants in the spring with sulfur. Got questions?
