Winter Red Deciduous Holly

Ilex verticillata 'Winter Red' Deciduous holly is sometimes also called Winterberry, or Winterberry Holly, or Black Alder. All, including Winter Red, which is particularly heavy fruiting, are native to the eastern US; form clumps; tend to sucker. All shed leaves in the fall, leaving bright red berries on the stems to complement other fall foliage and to feed birds over the winter. To get the berries, however, you do need a pollinator, such as the cultivar 'Apollo'.
