Vitis rotundifolia 'Chowan' Chowan produces a medium-sized black to bronze grape. The leaves are oval to triangle-shaped, dark glossy green on top, lighter below and are toothed on the margins. The vines climb by tendrils and the bark is tight, but scruffy. The small flowers are produces in clusters of a few flowers in the spring, followed by a thick-skinned berry with musky-tasting pulp. Chowan is delicious but also self-fertile (cross-pollinate for a heavier crop). Jumbo (female) may be a suitable pollinator. Poor cold and disease resistance.                     *Deer May Browse* Photo courtesy of Toms Creek Nursery in Denton, NC (336) 857-2131 Ornamental Characteristics Category Fruiting Vine Foliage Type Deciduous Height 10' + Spread 10' - 20' Shape Climbing Primary Foliage Color Green Seasonal Foliage Color Sheds its leaves during colder months Flowering Season Spring Berries Bronze to black Environmental Characteristics Growth Rate Fast S
