Up or Down? - Original

Title: Up or Down? – Original  My Whale Encounter: I have yet to dive with whales, but I have done many whale watching tours and it is always exciting to see one. I remember seeing my first blue whale here off the coast of California, and I was in awe at their size! It just kept going as it dove into the depths after taking a breath at the surface. This painting was inspired by that encounter – I actually painted it 5 times. I struggled to captivate the massiveness of the largest animal in the world. I finally was satisfied with this and wanted the viewer to wonder whether the whale is going up to the surface, or down to the depths below. Spiritually, the whale is the earth’s record keeper for all time. As a totem, the whale teaches you about listening to your inner voice, understanding the impact your emotions have on your everyday life, and following your own truth.
