The goal: to divert international traffic between Great Britain, the Netherlands and Switzerland to its own routes. The solution: the Rheingold! If you wanted to be competitive and flush the money into your own country, you had to think ahead: in 1928, the German Reichsbahn therefore acquired some Pullmann coaches to build a very special train. The Rheingold quickly developed into a real competitor for the luxury trains of the CIWL. Consisting of first class, second class and baggage cars, this train actually offered a level of luxury that was in no way inferior to the famous Orient Express.
