It plays an important role in DNA and RNA synthesis and is needed to synthesize S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe), which helps the immune system function properly and affects mood.1 B12 is necessary for normal nerve cell activity and the creation of red blood cells.2 B vitamins are used when converting carbohydrates into glucose to produce energy.3 B12 is often called an "anti-stress" vitamin because it is believed to enhance the activity of the immune system and improve the body's ability to withstand stressful conditions.4 Vitamin B12 deficiency is linked to fatigue, irritability, and impaired memory.5 Supplementation with Vitamin B12 may assist in increasing energy levels, improving mood, and fighting fatigue.6 The ability to absorb B12 decreases with age. In one study, 15 percent of adults over 65 years of age showed
