ORIGIN: EthiopiaPROCESSING: Natural REGION: Yirgacheffe GROWERS: Idido Say hello to "Off The Grid," a wonderful Ethiopian coffee from the remote community of Idido in the Yirgacheffe region. Idido's terrain is rugged and mountainous with coffee farms scattered across the hillsides throughout the region. Due to the intense geography, the closest farms are 20 minutes away by motorcycle and the furthest ones are over an hour away. Most farms have access to dirt roads, so at harvest time producers transport bags of coffee cherries by motorcycle, horse, or donkey to the nearest collection center. These bags then travel by truck to the central collection center in Idido. Due to the remoteness of the region, access to clean water, electricity, and school is constantly a challenge. Opportunities are limited and many young people choose to stay on their parents' farms or buy neighboring farms in order to continue producing coffee for the
