Learning to Love Where You Are I didn't always have an appreciation for living in the South.  I always thought that the only way I could make it as an artist was to be in some place with a "real"art scene like New York.  Looking back, I'm so very glad my life didn't go in that direction.  No offense to anyone from NYC at all, you have a beautiful city, but it's just not my kind of place to live. Over the years, as I slowed down, I started to see the beauty of this place.  There is, of course, the natural beauty.  The South is truly a great place to go outdoors.  But there's more to it.  It's the people who really make this place what it is.  It's that Southern culture of hospitality, courtesy, and generosity that I've really come to appreciate.  Those qualities helped me learn to appreciate being here instead of wishing I could be somewhere else.
