Arinto dos Açores, Verdelho, Terrantez do Pico Pico, Azores Islands, PortugalThis blend showcases three historic varieties of the Volcanic island of Pico. Arinto Dos Açores presents high acid and citrus notes. Verdehlo is aromatic, with tropical fruit notes. Terrantez is the least common of the three, and brings complex herbal, mineral, and seaweed-like aspects to the blend. The varieties are vinified separately in stainless steel vats, then aged on fine lees for 6 months. This project is from winemaker Bernardo Cabral, of Cooperativa Vitivinícola da Ilha do Pico. Founded in 1949, the cooperative unites 270 associates (each with an average vineyard area around 0.3 ha), dedicated to producing diverse wines from the finest grapes. Their vineyards, protected by stone walls, withstand the challenging weather conditions of Pico Island. Generations of knowledge and tradition come together to create unique and authentic wines that showcase the rich culture and heritage of the Azores.
