Quality Guaranteed SK5 high carbon steel is good, but it needs to be heat treated and sharp enough for the task. Our replacement blade is heat treated to the correct 55 to 65 HRC. The blade should not be too sharp, however. Too thin an edge and the blade will wear out quickly. The dual bevel edge has been sharpened with edge retention in mind, extending blade life.
