Vintage 30-strike matchbook cover (no matches) from the early 1980's advertising the Raphael Hotel which was located on Geary and the corner of Mason Street in the Tenderloin district near Union Square in San Francisco, California. The 12-story 160 room upscale Raphael Hotel opened in 1971 in a building that was originally built in 1908 as the Hotel Fielding.  The Raphael was sold in the 1990's and became the Maxwell and then the Hotel Frank and in 2014 it became the Hotel G San Francisco. The front cover has an the hotel name and logo and phone number. The strike side has a depiction of the artwork "Madonna of the Chair" by Raphael which shows Madonna and Child with the infant St. John, and below that is the slogan "San Francisco's Elegant Little Hotel".  The inside of the matchbook has info on the hotel's features (meeting rooms, coffee shop, restaurant, cocktail lounge), and the addresses of the two other boutique hotels the small Raphael chain owned in Kansas City and Chicago. The matchbook cover is empty and there are no matches, the strike pad appears to be unused. The matchbook has some light wear with a very light surface crease on the area below the strikepad (see photos).
