The earrings are then oxidized and polished to beautifully accentuate and enhance the "flash" in the opals. Approximately 3/8" diameter and 1" long. Opal is a relatively soft mineral that comprises silicon and water and is characterized by and valued for its display of flashing rainbow colors, referred to as the "play-of-color." These synthetic opals are meticulously grown in a lab for over a year and are GIA certified. They have a similar composition to natural opals, the process is just sped up in a lab. These opals are stronger and more scratch resistant than natural opals, so they are great for everyday wear.
