Ancient Pre Columbian Metate Grinding Stone w/Jaguar Figural Base, Stone Mortar

This is a fabulous example of a Metate - or grinding stone mortar and grinding stone base. The base is wrapped with an incredible figural jaguar. It has a few repairs to the surface - as you can see in photos - but this is an incredible piece of Pre-Columbian history. It is most likely Guanascate-Nicoya region, and is circa 800-1200AD. It was constructed with volcanic stone and the grinding stone is a matching composition. It measures about 15.5" long by 13" wide by 5.5" tall. The grinding stone measures about 6.5" long.
