C. 1820 Antique Hollow Cut Silhouette Hand Painted Glass Original Wooden Frame

This is an absolutely stunning antique original hollow cut silhouette. It is classically mounted over black silk. The frame is period and original. The silhouette measures about 3 inches tall. The oval cut out framing the silhouette has been embellished in gold. This was not removed from the frame for examination, but it came with a number of silhouettes purchased from an estate whose family was from central Massachusetts. With the frame overall it measures about 7 inches by 7 inches.The formal gentleman featured in this is wearing a suit that is typical for the time period. He has a ruffled neckline and his hair has been hand embellished using graphite. It is expertly crafted and has been done very well considering its size is quite small.Hollow cut silhouettes are those that have been cut away from a piece of paper - so the middle drops away, leaving the outline of the image to be backed with a darker material; in this case, it was crafted with thick paper and laid over black silk.Pl
