Viteadovest "Vurgo" Bianco Terre Siciliane 2020
Direct Press Selection | December 2021 Press 4 White This is such a delicious and exciting Sicilian white, despite having done a whole other wine club theme on Sicily, I had to include this. It comes from the Marsala region in far western Sicily, where Vincenzo Angileri and his family were farmers simply selling fruit to the bigger wine 'factories.' Since 2013 they have been making wines themselves, working organically with low yields and harvesting by hand. The Vurgo is Grillo and Catarrato with just a few days of skin contact, not really an orange wine but the texture it adds is awesome. There is an oxidative quality to the wine typical of the region, with bruised apple, cinnamon, and subtle smoke. Tangy, almost metallic energy on the finish makes this lively, refreshing, tart and tasty wine with complexity and character. [Jonathan Kemp, November 2021]
