Ziniel x Peltzer "Good Intentions 1" St Laurent 2020

Press 4 Red • November 2024 Direct Press Selection Andreas Ziniel got together with his old friend Niklas Peltzer, formerly of Meinklang, and started a side project where they use their shared philosophy about wine to showcase specific plots at the Ziniel estate. They are very hands-off with these wines but this allows for a special vibrancy that makes for some of the most lively, unexpected wines in Burgenland. Good Intentions version 1 is 100% Sankt Laurent fermented whole cluster, semi-carbonic, with zero sulfur added. It's gamey and a touch feral with brambly blackberry fruit, cranberry skin, pomegranate seeds, and a touch of pungent wet earth. An engaging mix of elements are at play here, with interplay and tension between the tangy, wild edge and the darker spiced fruit. Best with a slight chill. Jonathan Kemp
