Yellow Calcite
Calcite is a stone that has been used for both practical and decorative purposes for thousands of years. Ancient Egyptians appreciated Yellow Calcite’s meaning and worked with the stone extensively, usually for canopic jar decoration or other afterlife adornments. Calcite crystals may have also been used for navigation. The sage of Saint Olaf also made use of many of Yellow Calcite’s properties and mentions the use of “sunstones” to aid sailors in navigation in the 10th century. Further, Icelandic quarries were established by 1400 to harvest calcite crystals. An excavated Viking settlement even unearthed calcite, indicating their possible usage by the inhabitants. Despite this, no “sunstones” have ever been found in Viking wreckages. Even stranger, there is evidence to suggest that the English also understood the unique meaning of Yellow Calcite, and borrowed the idea of crystal navigation from the Vikings. A Calcite crystal was even found in an Elizabethan wreckage! Metaphysical Meani
