These rare and authentic excavated ancient beads were sourced in Mali. Experts believe that in fact, these red beads are a type of Indo-Pacific trade beads. The exact origin of these beads is unknown, but they may have been imported from India in ancient times as part of the Indo-pacific trade. These beads are believed to date to approximately 7-12th c. The strands contain beads of different sizes in the range of 2-5 mm beads, with an occasional 6-7 mm bead.
