This listing is for a short strand of 9 ancient Islamic Period and Older translucent blue eye beads.  The beads are of a beautiful dark blue, some more translucent than others. Some are with a white equatorial line and white eyes with black centers, some just with black and white eyes, both dating to Islamic Period (8-12c. AD).  Several beads are the so-called stratified eye, with concentric white and black circles.  Those are usually dated to an earlier Roman period. Excavated in the areas of D'Jenne and Gao in Mali and some in Mauritania, these beads are dated to Islamic Period, between the 8th and 12th century AD. A good reference for the history and excellent illustrations of these beads is a book by Augusto Panini "Middle Eastern and Venetian Glass Beads: Eighth to Twentieth Centuries" ISBN 9788861301641.  Beads range from approximately 11mm to 16mm in diameter.
