This one-of-a-kind longboard fin was hand painted after stamping with a custom linocut block print by Santa Cruz-based artist Tina Fuller Somers as part of the Ventana Fin Artist Project. Tina is an artist, mother, and nature lover born and raised in Santa Cruz. With formal training in painting and scientific illustration, she works on a wide variety of projects from field guides to woodblock prints and murals. The fin is made of Alaska yellow cedar used in the reconstruction of the Western Flyer boat, considered by many to be the most famous fishing boat in the world. John Steinbeck, Ed "Doc" Ricketts and crew sailed this 77-foot sardine boat into the Sea of Cortez in Baja California, Mexico in 1940.
