This longboard D-fin is handcrafted of Douglas fir from the hull of the Western Flyer, considered by many to be the most famous fishing boat in the world. John Steinbeck, Ed "Doc" Ricketts and crew sailed this 77-foot sardine boat into the Sea of Cortez in Baja California, Mexico in 1940. The following year, Steinbeck published his book, The Log from the Sea of Cortez about the adventure. Learn more about this amazing boat and Ventana's use of its wood. The lighter wood is Alaskan yellow cedar used in the rebuild of the Western Flyer. We also included a display base made from the same Western Flyer hull wood. We've left the rough edge and red paint from the hull plank, as well. And look closely, you can see one of the original square nails from the boat! The LED lights are built into the base to illuminate the fin while on display.  This fin is glassed with Entropy Resins and Aerialite fiberglass. We used Black Diamond Pigments to create the stunning colors. Length: 9 inches All Venta
