The beautiful princess Morning Star had dedicated her life to the Goddess Tonacayohua, and was forbidden to marry. But while out gathering flowers one day, she met a boy and fell in love. They decided to run off together, but were soon found and beheaded. The first vanilla orchid sprouted from where their spilled blood had soaked into the ground, capturing their souls and allowing them to forever live on in unity, with their love transformed into the beguiling fragrance emitted by the plant.
