Austro-Hungarian jewelry was known for its beautiful details on every side of their quality crafted pieces. This sapphire and diamond ring’s band is a floral-inspired masterpiece. The edges of the face bear gold linear stripes, and the bottom of the face, mostly hidden by the finger when worn, looks like a flower. During the 1800s, jewelry makers of the Austro-Hungarian region established a reputation for superior craftsmanship and beautiful design. They created Renaissance Revival style pieces, such as ornate earrings with shimmering paste, or highly detailed pendants with seed pearls. This resurgence of Renaissance design was most popular from the 1860s to 1910s. Pieces expressed richness of form, intricate details, experimental design, and the use of high quality paste, seed pearls, semi-precious gems, and of course, bright and bold precious stones. This 14 karat gold, silver set, ring features two sapphires with a diamond in the center. It was made around 1890, in Austria-Hungary
