Early Victorian Enamel Portrait Miniature 15k Gold

The steady gaze of children is one of the best things in life. Babies, too young to have self doubt, to have deference. They just exude unabashed curiosity about the world and the people in it. I love locking eyes with them, I always try hard to get them to laugh or smile. I usually succeed. It’s pure Joy.This wonderful little girl gazes out from a fabulous early portrait miniature. Her striking ginger hair and pursed lips make her look like an easy target for someone like me, you can just sense that big grin waiting to be teased out. She sits with her (presumably) mother and Mom holds a white dove in her arms, its wings outstretched.I love everything about this portrait miniature. It’s done in enamel and set into a 15 karat gold frame. The rich color and detail, the trees in the background, the wings of the bird, even the simplicity and heft of the frame, all add to the beauty of this early brooch. Made in England in about 1860, this piece is locket backed and comes as found, it likel
