The dirk holds a distinct place within Highland culture and history. While many Highland Scots lacked the means to purchase a sword due to the Disarming Acts aimed at suppressing Highland rebellions, nearly every man carried a dirk—and it was a constant companion. Just as the katana symbolized the essence of the Samurai in Japan, the dirk represented the core of the Highlander in Scotland. This brooch was crafted in around 1880 from 9 karat gold, and has a striking combination of agate, amethyst, and citrine. The top features a dazzling 9.5 mm round-cut amethyst, followed by two smaller 4 mm round-cut citrine stones. The rich hues of these gemstones, ranging from the regal purple of the amethyst to the warm golden tones of the citrine and the earthiness of the agate, are all accentuated by the gleaming gold setting. Marked "9 CT" denoting its gold purity and bearing the maker's mark "W.H.L.", this brooch bears the hallmarks of quality craftsmanship and attention to detail. Measuring 92
