Red Creole Allium cepa 100 to 190 days — 'Red Creole' onions develop into small to medium sized bulbs that are thick, flat, and light-red in color. Their flesh is firm, purple-red, and can be pungent. Bred specifically for use in the Southern United States, 'Red Creole' is a good, short day, storage variety. Red onions are rich in the beneficial carotenoid lycopene, which are effective at scavenging the molecules that have been linked to cancer-causing free radicals. Bright red vegetables are also shown to be useful in increasing blood flow and circulation which is beneficial for heart and lung health.
